Amongst the many unique architecture that our school has, Keōpūolani Dorm holds a very strong significance. According to our kūpuna, Keōpūolani was the most sacred chief of all. She was so sacred that even Kamehameha The Great (her husband) was not allowed to see her. She remains the highest ranking chief therefore, this dorm is our highest dorm on campus which signifies Keōpūolani's position. Around the late 1800's and early 1900's, this dorm was known to be Senior Cottage. In this dorm, women from the senior class would stay here and learn how to take care of a baby along with other home skills. To this day, there is no building that is built above Keōpūolani. Walking around the high school campus was very fun for me because I was able to gather more information about the names and figures of the buildings and why these names were incorporated when building our beloved Kamehameha Schools. I felt that I gained a lot more gratitude for the different buildings. I highly recommend for those that have not been educated yet about these buildings, to take a walk and find out. It was a fun way to get more connected with our culture and our sacred ali‘i.
