Carbon Cycle
Carbon plays a significant role in all living things. It is a part of the environment. The carbon moves through the plants, animals, and earth.
Nitrogen Cycle
The nitrogen cycle is a very important one. In this cycle, the nitrogen circulates between between, living things and soil. The nitrogen cycle is responsible for the proteins that living things receive from this process.
Oxygen Cycle
The Oxygen Cycle is similar to the other two cycles. It goes through plants, animals, the air. Plants use oxygen to create energy. Animals consume these plants, with taking energy as well. Through processes such as Photosynthesis.
Food Journal
In this assignment, we needed to document the meals that we ate for a few weeks. By doing so, we used different forms of documenting such as Sheets, Google Docs, etc. In our journaling, we put if our meals were locally sourced, processed, and/or organic. Many of the meals that I ate were not locally sourced. Many of the meals I ate were processed foods such as take-out from Zippys, Nicos Pier 38, Mcdonalds, any many other places that did not produce organic nor non-processed foods. Doing this assignment helped me realize many different things. One of them was that I do not eat as healthy as should. Another was that, as a Hawaiian, I should be familiar with where our foods come from and how we can be food sovereign.

How can we be more responsible for our own food production?
As kanaka maoli, we can be responsible for our own food production by being more sustaining in our food systems. Overuse and waste are too common in our present day. It is important to sustain and protect our food systems in order for our future generations to have what we have today and what we had in the times of our ancestors. 1000 years from now, I would love for those children and parents of Hawai‘i to know how to ku‘i kalo and produce our own foods just like those 1000 years before us.
AQUAPONICS SYSTEM
Me and a few other classmates are responsible for the aquaponics system outside of Konia. In that system, we are planting maki, kalo, and lettuce. The fish will produce excess which will be used to help our plants flourish and grow. We have been monitoring the system and feeding our fish. We look forward to see the progress. Stay tuned!!
