About Me
My name is Jania Clemente. I am from Aiea, O‘ahu. My family is from Waihe‘e, Maui. Our wind is called ‘O‘opu. Our mauna is Waihe‘e Ridge. Unfortunately, i have never been to Maui but I made it a goal for myself to save up and experience what Maui is like. I grew up in Aiea, Pu‘uloa O‘ahu and I now currently live in Kalihi with my ‘ohana.

Growing up, I was raised with the mindset to never litter and to never intentionally damage property. For instance, I learned to always pick up my trash or others at parties or gatherings. Also, I learned to never draw on walls or display graffiti on public and private property. Other things such as not abusing animals or “messing with” the animals around our community. For instance, a lot of times I notice little kids in my community that chase chickens or roosters for fighting to make a profit and I believe it is not right to do that. |
To love the land is to love the land as if it was a relative or friend. In Hawaiian culture, our kūpuna believed that our people comes from Hāloa, a kalo plant. Kalo is an essential food in our culture. Knowing that kalo has provided us many nutrients, in order for kalo to continue to prosper, we as Hawaiians must take care of the land. We must love it because it is our own relative. |
